13 Days In Nepal To Mt. Everest | Day 8

LOBUCHE TO EVEREST BASE CAMP (EBC)
Finally on the 7th day, after walking for seven hours we were able to reach Lobuche. My legs were hurting very badly. My calf muscles felt tighter and looked swollen. Even though my whole body was aching badly, just thinking about how close we were to the Everest Base Camp gave me energy to carry the trip on. Because of this excitement, I was able to complete my trip. After reaching at Lobuche, we stayed at a lodge.Thankfully we got a lodge. Although our guide told us that they had already booked the lodge, we struggled to get a lodge until the very last moment. After so much trouble, we finally got the rooms. And as usual, Scarlet and I stayed together. As we were extremely tired and hungry, we were eagerly waiting for the dinner. The owners finally called us for dinner and we had the dinner which was not very delicious but I had no complaints at all because I was already prepared for all the odds to come. After eating our food, we went outside for a while. We wandered around for sometime and came back to our room and finally slept there. Thankfully my periodic tension completely vanished once I reached Lobuche and I was absolutely fine.

The next day we woke up to the blue clear sky with the majestic, thick, snow-capped mountains. After having our breakfast and getting ready for the trip, we started our journey. We were at the elevation of 4910 meters i.e 16,109 feet, we were aiming to go to the Everest base camp which was at the elevation of 5,364 meters i.e 17,598 feet. We literally had to walk for 7-8 hours to reach there as we were going there via Gorakshep and had planned to return back to Gorakshep the same day. On the way to the Everest base camp, we were walking alongside the Khumbu glacier. We were able to view the sparsely vegetated, shifting landscape. The Everest base camp was sitting upon the glacier which means that everything will move next year. Be it tents or stupas, everything will move next year to different points on the ice.

After walking for six hours we were able to reach Khumbu. The day seemed so long, may be it was because we were finally able to reach the Everest Base Camp. May be due to the excitement also, after reaching Khumbu , we were overlooking the Nuptse and the icefall and having our hot bowl of soup. One can also visit the Buddhist monastery called Tengboche monastery which is located in the Khumbhu region. The guides were busy arranging tents and their fellow trekkers. After spending two hours in the Everest base camp, we returned back to Goraksheep which took us about one and half hour.
