BOUDHANATH STUPA – ONE OF THE WORLD HERITAGE SITES OF NEPAL

Nepal consists of 10 World Heritage Sites. Boudhanath is one of them and it has its own religious importance.

Along with the amazing Nepali people, wonderful and breathtaking Himalayan views and beautiful culture and customs, Nepal is rich in architectural palaces, buildings and temples. Many famous sites in Kathmandu and districts near to it has been able to be listed in the UNESCO world heritage site list. The Basantapur durbar square, Patan durbar square, Bhaktapur durbar square, Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are the famous heritage sites listed by the UNESCO WORLD HERIATGE SITE.

The Boudhanath stupa is a famous heritage sites, popular amongst both Hindus and Buddhists. Many Buddhist from all over the world visit this place and get astonished by the amazing view it has to provide. This stupa is open from 12 AM TO 11:59 PM. The foreign national are expected to pay 250 rupees to get into the stupa area, 50 rupees to SAARC nationals and 250 rupees for Chinese nationals.

The massive Boudhanath stupa is visible as soon as you fly in the sky of the Kathmandu valley. The humongous circular dome made in a shape of a mandala which is the replica of the Gyantse of the Tibet is located at8 kilometers far from that of the downtown Kathmandu. This 36 meters high stupa is surrounded by various souvenir shops, restaurants and café. You can enjoy the view of this massive dome from sitting at one of the surrounding restaurants near to it with a cup of coffee in your hands. You can visit this site early in the morning or in the late evening light a butter lamp and see the magic. The one side of this dome has the two eyes of Buddha which represents awareness. The lower part of this site is surrounded by 13 stages and 147 niches. The image of 108 meditating Buddha can be observed in the back of the copper wheel. There is a huge copper wheel in this site where most of the Buddhist go and worship Lord Buddha.

A place, so peaceful, soothing and calming which is hiding behind the hustle and bustle city life. It is simple like a treasure. It’s only been one year that I had gone to this place for the first time otherwise I had never been there. Now whenever I am sad or depressed or want peace for sometimes, I simply go there, as it is situated comparatively near to my house. It is like a place for relaxation for me. You simply get lost in the moment and enjoy whatever is happening at that point of time. A famous Buddhist song or mantra, I do not know it exactly, OM MAANE PEMBE plays at the background which is such an amazing and soft voice running into your ears.
