CULTURAL SITES IN NEPAL

1. Swayambhunath

Swayambhunath is a popular pilgrimage site for Buddhists not only in Nepal but throughout the world. It is also termed as “Monkey Temple” and is one of the oldest monuments in the world.

2. Boudhanath

Boudhanath is another popular Buddhist pilgrimage site. This large monument can be viewed from air when flying in or out from Kathmandu.

3. Pashupatinath

The holy temple of Pashupatinath is one of the major sites for Hindus. People from different parts of the world, mainly India, come to visit Pashupatinath especially one Teej and Maha Shivaratri.

4. Changunarayan Temple

Changunarayan temple is one of the oldest temples of Nepal. This Bishnu Temple is also famous for one day hiking. Changunarayan temple is 12 kilometres away from Kathmandu and North of Bhaktapur.

5. Lumbini

Lumbini is a popular pilgrimage site for Buddhists and the birth place of “Light of Asia” Siddhartha Gautam Buddha. Lumbini lies in the Terai region of Nepal in Kapilvastu district. Lumbini is also famous for the Ashoka Pillar and Maya Devi temple.

6. Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square which is also known as Hanuman dhoka is one of the most visited sites in Kathmandu. It is also famous for its historical importance and rich culture.

7. Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square is another religious site dedicated to Hindu religion. This is one of the finest place for exploring art, culture, architecture and history of Nepal. The main attraction of this place is Krishna Mandir and Patan Museum where a number of people from different sides of country visit. Krishna Mandir welcomes devotees from Nepal as well as India on the day of Lord Krishna’s birthday.

8. Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Bhaktapur Durbar Square, also known as Khwopa is a popular site in Nepal for its historical importance. Like the Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square, it was the palace of Malla Kings. A special curd found in Bhaktapur is one of the finest and tastiest in Nepal. It is called “Juju Dhau” and is demanded all over the Nepal.
