Trekking in Dolpa

You must have heard about the popular trekking regions in Nepal like the Annapurna region and the Everest region. But have you ever thought out of the box and planned to trek in the Western parts of Nepal. I am talking about trekking in Dolpa district of Nepal.

This must be new for many any of you. If you have heard about Dolpa, then its great. If you have not, sit back to be amazed by reading about this amazing destination in Nepal. Dolpa is a remote district in Karnali zone in Nepal. Dolpa is one of the least developed distrits in Nepal. You will find it hard to live here on a regular basis however trekking in such remote and rural region seems adventurous, doesn’t it?

Trekking in luxurious and developed place with all services available is definietely fun but trekking in remotre areas is far better. You can use high speed WiFi, eat at top restaurants and sleep on a comfortable bed any time of the year, but trekking is remotre areas is not something you do everyday. Trekking in Dolpa is an experience that you will never forget.

TREKKING IN DOLPA

The nature seems to have remained exactly the same as it was first created in this region. The trekking trail passes through a variety of landscapes ranging from green pasture to barren rocks that extend into the Tibetian plateau. The spectacle of Nepal’s deepest lake, Phoksundo, is almost beyond describing. The Phoksundo Lake is an incomparable beauty, with its deep blue and emerald colors surrounded by steep rocks. The lake is surrounded by jutting cliffs and is full of arresting turquoise fresh water.

This water will touch the very depth of every human heart searching for peace and tranquility. This region is endowed with high passes, rare flora and fauna, sweeping vistas and rich traditional tibetian culture.

Trekking in Dolpa gives you the opportunity to enjoy and experience the traditional culture and the hospitality of native people. Buddhism and Bonpo are very important part of life for the people living in these villages and affect their lifestyles. Bonpo Religion is the oldest spiritual tradition of Tibet.

Dolpa remains a truly isolated corner of Nepal. There are two trekking routes in Dolpa: Lower dolpa trek and Upper dolpa trek. The Upper Dolpa trek begins at the northwestern region behind the Dhaulagiri massif. It is a thrilling path trekking to the divine mountain region and is famous for reaching deepest Lake Phoksundo. It is one of the longer treks in Nepal as it takes more than 20 days to complete depending upon the itinerary you take and your physical fitness.

The Lower Dolpa trek is located in the northwestern part of Nepal and it is less touristic but naturally rich. It offers a wonderful chance to experience a landscapes and culture far different than the other parts seen in Nepal. The area is inhabitanted by various endangered and rare species of wildlife and plants which cannot be found in other part of Nepal.

BEST SEASON TO TREK IN DOLPA

The best time and season to explore Dolpa is April to May and from October to November. But be sure with your tour operator that if the lodges are open in April and if the passes are open in November. This will depend on prevailing weather condition.
