KATHMANDU – JOURNEY THROUGH NEPAL

Mainly popular as the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu is situated in Bagmati Zone in Province 3. Kathmandu valley is popular for its history, architectural beauty, culture and diverse lifestyles.

The Kathmandu valley is also popular as “City of Temple”. At every corner of the city, you encounter with a temple, big or small. Kathmandu valley, also known as “Nepal Mandala” is a cosmopolitan urban civilization in the Himalayan foothills. This multiethnic city holds a history of great culture, art, diversity and economy. Originally, this place was home to the Newari community but now it has become home to different kinds of ethnic groups. Kathmandu is great to visit in any season except Monsoon (June to August).

Kathmandu consists of four man-made structures that has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites along with the three others in its neighbouring cities. Swayambunath and Boudhanth are the major tourists destination for the Buddhist community from the list. People from different parts of the world visit these sites to get a peaceful vibe and worship Gautam Buddha.

Similarly, Pashupatinath is equally famous amongst the Hindu pilgrims. People from all over the world, mainly India come here to take a holy bath in the holy Bagmati River and worship Lord Shiva. Along with that, Basantapur Durbar Square, with its alluring beauty attracts all kinds of people. Many locals prefer to stay in its periphery and enjoy the views all day. There are times when I also am having bad days, I prefer to go there and simply stay at one of the corners of its periphery and enjoy the whole thing that is going on. You will see kids playing, couples walking hand in hand and old people sharing their stories of youth age.

Lalitpur and Bhaktapur

The neighboring districts of Kathmandu i.e. Patan and Bhaktapur also offer a lot in terms of culture, art, history and tradition. The fact that these districts are closest to Kathmandu city makes it much easier for people to view everything within 2 or 3 days. The Bhaktapur Durbar Square and the Patan durbar square are offer great surroundings where you can see differentr people, interact with them and learn about the place’s history and importance. The 55 windowed-palace of Bhaktapur is the main attraction you can see in Bhaktapur. On the way up there you will encounter lots of such shops who are selling traditional and authentic Nepal clothes, painting shops and arts. Also the curd of Bhaktapur, locally famous as “JUJU DHAU” is a must to try. Along with the durbar square, the Changu Narayan Temple is also famous in Bhaktapur. The Krishna temple in the Patan durbar square and the view it provides is really awesome. You can hang out in one of the restaurants and enjoy the view of the whole scenario. If you ride further through Bhaktapur, you can reach Nagarkot, a hill station which offers magnificient view of Sunrise and Sunset.
