Rara Lake

Nepal is a country widely famous for various landscapes, floral and faunal beauty and snowcapped mountains. Nepal is also known as the second richest country in water resources. With uncountable number of lakes, rivers and waterfalls, Nepal has so much to offer. Although it is a landlocked country, it is still very beautiful and geographically diverse. Though you can’t get the fun to chill at a beach watching over the sea but riversides are also not a bad.

RARA LAKE

Rara Lake is among such various beautiful and breathtaking lakes in Nepal. Rara lake is the biggest and deepest fresh water lake of Nepal lying safe in the Himalayas. Adding to that, contributing to the beauty of Nepal is the smallest national park of Nepal i.e. Rara National Park. Located in Mugu, one of the rural and remote district of the country, this lake is still unexplored and its beauty has remained unappreciated.

Ramsar site means the wetland site which is designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar convention. The Ramsar convention is an intergovernmental environmental treaty established by UNESCO, which came in force in 1971.

Rara Lake is sitiated at an altitude of 2990 meters from the sea level with an area water surface of 10.8 kilometer square. The best season for visiting Rara Lake is April-May and September-October. Visiting Rara Lake during the winter season i.e. December to February is difficult due to intense cold and you may not get the best views as well. Visiting during the Summer is the better option. It gives you the opprtunity to enjoy the scenery and view around the Rara Lake and more.

The people living in this region are usually engaged in agriculture. Many of them rear animals too. The dominants in this region are Thakurs. Due to the unplanned gazing and defecation, the national park officers are facing hard time to deal with the villagers.

How to reach Rara Lake?

You can land on Tribhuwan International Airport from where you can get your visa. From there you can either choose a road trip or can book a domestic flight. Whichever path you choose, you have to first reach Nepalgunj and from there you have to book your flight for Talcha airport. Rara Lake is 2 hours far walk from Talcha Airport. As the lake is preserved under the Rara National Park, you are supposed to buy a ticket or ask for a permit in the army barrack. You won’t be allowed to take pictures of army barrack but further in your journey you can take pictures. There are hotels that will provide you fine comfortable services. The food and accomodation are not five starred but they are good and satisfying. You can either opt to stay trhe night at the hotel or set up camp. Personally, I would prefer camping but that is your choice.

The Rare lake, also known as blue water lake is breathtaking that you won’t get tired from taking pictures. The whole view will make you feel like you are standing on a beach.
