Makalu Base Camp

Trek to the 5th highest mountain of the world.  Due to its geographical location the area is less visited but the trek is ideal for nature lovers. This trek takes you from warm sector to the icy glaciers and gets the chance to interact with different ethnic group of the eastern Nepal. Makalu base camp offers spectacular view and the national parks provide you the rare spices of flora and fauna of the Nepal.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to the Capital of Nepal “KATHMANDU”. Upon Arrival our representative will welcome you and drive you to Hotel. Refresh and Relax


Day 2: Explore Kathmandu

"Kathmandu" which has exclusive blend of art, culture, history and religion. It bears varieties from pre-history to modern art, culture and custom. Today we explore some of it most popular UNESCO heritage sites.  Afternoon walk around the main tourist hub of Kathmandu and prepare for your trek.


Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar then drive to Chichira

Drive to the airport and take a flight to Tumlingtar. After arriving drive few hours to the small gurung village of chichira for overnight and prepare for the next day.

Flight Time: approx.50 minutes, Driving Time: approx.4 hours

Day 4: Chichira to Num

After breakfast be prepare for moderate walk through picturesque villages and forest to Num a ridge line with great views on both sides.

Height: 1560m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 5: Num to Seduwa

The trail steeply descent through forests and terraced farms to Barun River, cross the river and ascent steeply to Makalu national park and to seduwa village for overnight.

Height: 1500m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 6: Seduwa to Tashigaon

Ascend the ridge bounded by the Ipsuwa Khola on the west and Kasuwa Khola to the east. Crossing the hillside through quiet villages and passing by small paddy fields to reach the beautifual village of Tashi Gaon which offering the excellent view of himalayas.

Trekking Time: approx.4-5 hours

Day 7: Tashigaon to Khongma Danda

Now are heading to higher altitude. We ascend through forest and onto a ride and pass through pastureland and follow stone stairs up to the ride again and take our final short downhill for overnight at Khongma Danda.

Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 8: Acclimatization/Rest

It’s a acclimatization day today so give your body a proper rest or walk around the surrounding area.


Day 9: Khongma Danda to Dobate

A hard day, which starts with a climb to shipton la pass (4229m) and down to kalo pokhara which is followed by the pass of keke la (4170m). The pass offers great view over the mount Chalang, peak 6 and peak 7.  Enjoy the view from the pass and descend to dobate for overnight.

Day 10: Dobate to Yangri Kharka

From Dobate, we pass through the rhododendron forest which leads us to the Barun River and take a pleasant walk with gradual uphill to yangri kharka which is situated at the base of valley.

Height: 3557m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 11: Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka

Following a moderate walk to the valley, we pass through yak pastures, forests and boulder fields. The valley walls tower imposingly above us and as we continue further up, we could notice significant rising on beautiful scenery.

Height: 4410m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 12: Acclimatize

It’s another day to let your body relax and acclimatize.


Day 13: Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp

We make our way to shershon which allow us the view of Makalu and follow the icy glaciers trail to Makalu base camp with offers the majestic panorama view of Surroundings Mountains.

Trekking Time: approx.6-7 hours

Day 14: Explore Makalu Base Camp

Today we explore this barren base camp with the large barun glacier beyond it. Explore the surrounding area of glaciers and lake and enjoy the beautiful scenery including Everest and Lhotse.


Day 15: Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka

We descend down from the base camp and pass through Shershong, Langmale Kharka and stop at yangri kharka for overnight.


Day 16: Yangri Kharka to Dobate

From Yangri Kharka we descend through rock falls, green forests and valley, making our way towards Dobate. We follow the riverbanks of Barun as we descend down the trail. Overnight at Dobate.

Trekking Time: approx.6-7 hours

Day 17: Dobate to Khongma Danda

The trails climb steeply from Dobate to Mumbuk and enter through forest. Cross the pass of keke la, kauma la and descend to khongma for overnight.

Heights: 3500m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 18: Khongma Danda to Tashigaon

The trek continues with frequent long and steep descent cutting through the hillsides. The trail takes us through thick forests and finally making it to the village of Tashigaon.

Heights: 2100m
Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 19: Tashigaon to Seduwa

We continue our descend and retrace our way to seduwa.

Trekking Time: approx.4-5 hours

Day 20: Seduwa to Num

We leave Seduwa and trek through forests following up and down trail crossing the river and finally toward num for overnight.

Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 21: Num to Tumlingtar

It’s the final day we walk up to chichira and drive from there to tumlingtar and wait for our flight to the next day.

Trekking Time: approx.6-7 hours

Day 22: Tumlingtar to Kathmandu

Today, we fly back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel and relax


Day 23: Sightseeing tour to Bhaktapur and free for shopping rest of the day

Today we visit Bhaktapur, one of the three ancient cities within the Kathmandu valley. It’s the home of true medieval art and architecture in the valley and the center of traditional Nepalese wood carving. Afternoon free for shopping and walk around the local markets.


Day 24: Fly back

Drive to the airport and farewell
