We drive south from Kathmandu to visit the lake which is believed to be a remnant pool of the huge lake that once existed where now the city of Kathmandu lies. The lake is a stopover for numerous migratory bird species including cormorants, ruddy shelduck, serpent eagle, etc. We then visit the town of pharping which is important Buddhis pilgrimage sites as well as a number of buddhist monasteries and meditation retreat centers and finally we take a visit to one of the ancient historical cities of Kirtipur. Kirtipur's history dates from 1099 AD. In 1767 the battle of Kiritpur occurred, it was then a walled town of 800 houses and part of the kingdom of Lalitpur. Kirtipur was annexed to the Gorkhali kingdom on twenty-third attempts after entering it by trickery. We explore this old historical town and some of its monasteries and temples of the premises and back to Kathmandu.
