Pisang Peak lies North of Manang valley in the Annapurna region at a height of 6091 meters. The western flank of the mountain is guraded by a hanging glacier and offers considerable challenge. This Pisang Peak Climbing Expedition offers gorgeous views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Annapurna and more.
We follow the classic route of Annapurna Circuit trek to climb this Pisang peak. Pisang peak offers good scope for exploration. The western end of the ridge is guarded by huge rock slabs which make it difficult to climb. Our trip starts going through Marshayangdi river valley passing through beautiful village and landscape and heading toward the alpine zone and snow and ice covered giant Pisang peak and descend to Manang and slowly climb again to cross over the classical Thorung la pass and descent down to Kaligandaki valley via the most popular and sacred place of Muktinath and a spectacular flight back from Jomsom.
You leave in the morning for about 8 hours scenic bus drive to Syange'. Its a black topped and bumpy road which takes us to syange. You might need to change the bus at Besisahar depending on the road condition
Height: Kathmandu 1350m, Syange 1100mAfter breakfast we continue our trek following the dusty road for about 2 hours to chamje and after crossing over the bridge we head up hill walking following the trekking trail to Tal. Enjoy the natural water fall and stay overnight in tal.
Height: Tal 1700mWe continue our trekking trail after breakfast for about an hour and we hit the dusty road again for about two hours to Danaque. On the way we could see view of Mt. Manaslu. After Danque we avoid the dusty road and walk steep up hill through forest to Timang for about 1 hrs from where we could have nice view over mountain. After having lunch we follow the road again to Thanchok. Thanchok is a big Gurung village and we could also see nice mountain view from here.
Height: Thanchok 2500mWe follow the road again throw the pine trees all the way to Chame. Chame, the administrative centre of the Manang district. It is a large village packed with small shops and tea-houses, an army post and a large school. From here we follow the marshyangdi river all the way to pisang from where you could have nice view of Mountain.You could enjoy the Buddhist cultural here.
Height: Pisang 3200mAfter breakfast we have steep uphill track through the pine forests to Pisang Base Camp. The trail opens up with dramatic view of monstrous mountains. The trail further ascends through spare woods and pastures. An open flat alpine section at Base Camp is where we nestle overnight.
Height: Pisang Base Camp 4480mA perfect location to witness mountain from such a close distance persuades us to spend one spare day here. It is also crucial for us to have a rest day here so that we can acclimatize. We can hike to a view point as well so that we can have better views. We can also have small practice session with ropes and gears.
The trail gets released with steep track to High Camp. The trail to west ridge through alpine meadows with no sign of human takes us to High Camp allowing you to have overview of Pisang peak and confluences.
Height: High Camp 5400mEarly start with steep climb, uses of ropes takes us to the summit offering extra ordinary views. Return to base camp for overnight.
Height: Pisang 6091mFollowing the spare woods and pastures initially and pine forest later on we descend back to Pisang again. En route farewell glimpses of mountains make us feel good. On arriving Pisang we can have small celebration. If you are bit tired of sleeping in tents, then you can have wonderful sleep here in the tea house.
Height: 3300mAfter breakfast we head up hill to upper pisang where you could see nice monastery and super
view of Mt. Annapurna II and III, Gangapurna, Lamjunghimal and others. After here we continue our trek throw pipe forest and climb steep up hill for about an hour to gharu and level walk from here takes us to Nawal. Nawal is a big village with lots of mane wall. Nice view of mountain could be seen from here as well.
Your day start with down hill walk for about an hour and level walk through pine forest and pasture field which takes us to Braga where we meet the road again and follow the road all the way to manang where you see colourfulchortens ,monastery, Tibetan style house,culture and landscape. Perfect mountain view could been seen from here.
Heights: Manang 3540mToday we cross a stream and start climb to a village over Manang and continue our climb turning northwest. The trail follows northward passing few pastures, village, meadows and old mani wall before we reach to our destination.
Height: 4018mToday you have an easy two or three hour walk up to the lodge at ThorungPhedi where you will have lunch and stay overnight there getting to bed early for your early morning start the next day; the big pass day.
Heights: Thorung Phedi 4450mToday you hit the trail early for about 5 hour walk to the top of the Thorung La at 5416m. From where you could see surrounding peaks as well as some part of Mustang. The descent is almost as demanding as the ascent to the top of the pass, with a steep rough trail down to Muktinath. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus, sacred for its auspicious combination of earth, fire and water.
Heights: Thorung La 5416m, Muktinath 3760mThis morning you have an easy walk following the road down to the Kali Gandaki riverbed, which you follow down to Jomsom. The Kali Gandaki valley gets very windy in the afternoons so it's a good idea to keep moving on the trail and get into Jomsom in time for lunch if possible.
